mindful change

...with hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and coaching

my background

I was raised in Birmingham and have moved around the UK with my education and work. I came to Scotland in 1984 to begin postgraduate, scientific research at the University of St Andrews. In 1990 I co-organised a two-year expedition to cycle around the world (also using planes/trains/vans/boats) and raised money for Practical Action, a charity committed to education and using sustainable technology in developing countries (used to be called the Intermediate Technology Development Group).

I have a varied professional background that includes Information Technology, teaching, educational development and, more recently, consultancy in project & change management. The common threads throughout my life have been a curiosity to explore, learn and develop as an individual and to facilitate learning in others.

My early training in NLP was with Michael Spence (Centre of NLP Excellence (Scotland) and then with Matthew Ferguson (Motivation Training). I have a General Qualification in Hypnotherapy Practice (GQHP) certified by the General Hypnotherapy Register (Reg. No. 3741).

I am also a Psychotherapist in Training with the BeeLeaf Institute for Contemporary Psychology, and working toward certification by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

my approach

At the heart of my practice is the intention to work in a way that's right for you (with your 'map of the world') and respect difference and diversity. We cannot change the past but we can change our relationship with the past and learn to become more flexible in our approach and more compassionate toward ourselves and others around us. This learning happens for individuals at different speeds and at different times. This is your own personal journey toward a more enriched and fulfilled life.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference." - from The Road not Taken by Robert Frost (1874-1963)

ethics

My work is supported and bound by the good practice and ethical frameworks of my training and professional registration bodies.
