Therapy & Coaching
Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and Coaching all work with the valuable, internal resources that we each have - it's about leaning how to re-connect and develop these resources in order to make the changes that we desire in our lives.
These three approaches provide different perspectives for different types of work. All are 'solution focused' in that we seek to establish clear goals toward which we will work. At the heart of my practice is the intention to work in a way that's right for you.
We cannot change the past but we can change our relationship with the past and learn to become more flexible and compassionate toward ourselves and others around us. This learning happens for individuals at different speeds and at different times; it is your own personal journey toward a more enriched and fulfilled life.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy uses a combination of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP in change work.
Contemporary Psychotherapy respects and works with your 'unique map' of the world; your values, beliefs and resources. We will work together with curiosity, compassion and awareness of what makes a positive difference and how these insights can take you toward your goal and enrich your life. The work can be brief, focusing on a particular issue, or a much longer journey of self-discovery and integration.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a body of information about how our minds work that began in the 1970's and continues to develop through new research. The information was based on observing and 'modelling' the skills of expert therapists; Milton Erickson (father of modern hypnotherapy), Fritz Perls (co-creator of Gestalt Therapy) and Virginia Satir (mother of modern-day, family therapy). The process of modelling identified what made these therapists effective and was used to train others in their methods.
Hypnotherapy
Ericksonian Hypnotherapy uses a deeply relaxed state to work with the subconscious mind.
Have you ever been engrossed in a book, captivated by art or simply day dreamed? These are natural states that are similar in experience to being in an hypnotic, relaxed state. This relaxed state is used to quiet your conscious mind and allow language patterns, stories and metaphor to engage your unconscious mind in the change work. Your unconscious mind is open to creative insights and is free to choose different (more helpful) ways of thinking, feeling or behaving.
NLP Coaching
Life coaching involves clarifying your professional or personal aims and objectives.
Perhaps you feel 'stuck' or needing support in a specific area of your life and want to explore ways in which you can move-on, toward new horizons? We will work together to clarify your aims and objectives and create a path toward these objectives along which you can track and monitor your own progress.
NLP provides a framework for more effective communication (verbal and non-verbal), behaviour and managing one's internal state.
Sessions
In the first session we will talk about the outcome that you want to achieve, the approaches we can take and, most importantly, get a sense of whether we would work well together. It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist/coach and this is a very personal choice.
Together, we will agree the number and frequency of sessions; different people have different needs and processing times and also depends on the issue with which you want to work. Weekly sessions are preferable, particularly at the beginning, and we can move to longer intervals depending on your schedule and financial situation. Hypnotherapy or coaching programmes are typically short (6 or more sessions) and sometimes involve top-up sessions at a later date.
Our work together is completely confidential apart from when there is an issue of serious harm to one's self or another person. In this very rare instance, I will say that I need to break confidentiality.
